How We Started

Dr. Neal Winnacott established Redwood Animal Hospital in 1995 and we have been serving our patients in our current location since 2001. Dr. Winnacott received his bachelor’s degree from Humboldt State University and his D.V.M. from Cornell University. After finishing his education, he returned to the North Coast to open his practice with the goal of serving the local community.

Meet Our Team

Dr. Neal Winnacott

He is the owner and veterinarian on staff. He is a graduate of Humboldt State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Zoology and received his D.V.M from Cornell University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1987. He practiced his first year in San Diego and moved back to Humboldt County in 1988, opening up Redwood Animal Hospital in 1995. He is pictured here with Toemas, one of our resident cats.

Marguerite Winnacott

Marguerite graduated from Humboldt State University with a Bachelors’ in Biology/Medical Technology in 1983 and worked for four years in the clinical laboratory at Cornell School of Veterinary medicine, one year at Scripps institute in La Jolla, and many years at Mad River Community Hospital lab.

She currently manages the office, and works as receptionist and laboratory technician. She is pictured here with Leila.

Tonya Wilson

Tonya is our veterinary technician. She graduated from Humboldt State University with a degree in Marine Biology/Zoology/Scientific Diving and has been working with us since 2007. Tonya often helps at the reception desk as well as working in the back as our primary technician. She is pictured with her cat Emma.

Lisa Gorge

Our receptionist, Lisa Gorge, has been with Redwood Animal Hospital since 2016, bringing with her the experience she obtained from years as receptionist at Eureka Vet. She is a friendly person that with a caring voice and face that puts everyone at ease. Lisa is pictured here with her dog, Daxx.

Crystal Scollard

Crystal Scollard, one of our technicians, started with us in 1998 and has worked in all aspects of the hospital over the years. She is great with animals and people and teaches horseback riding in her spare time. Pictured is her cat Amelia.

Rhonda Bakr

Rhonda Bakr is our technician assistant who has been with us since 2017. She graduated from Humboldt State in 2017 with a bachelors in Zoology and loves working with animals. She is pictured with her cat Grogu.
